TabCmdr's way

Search and copy any emoji with TabCmdr

TabCmdr is a keyboard launcher that lives in your browser. Its emoji picker opens over the page you’re on, finds emoji by name or keyword and copies the one you pick, so you can paste it anywhere.

Before you start: add TabCmdr from the Chrome Web Store. It has a 7-day free trial and needs no account.

Step 1: Open the emoji picker

Press ⌘+K on a Mac or Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux, and type :emoji. The picker opens with every emoji grouped by category, such as Smileys & Emotion.

:emoji opens the picker. The selected emoji and its name show at the top.

For a shorter way in, type :em followed by a space. You can also open the Tools filter and choose Emoji.

Step 2: Type a word

Type what you’re looking for. Search matches emoji names and keywords, so party finds the partying face, party popper, balloon and more.

Use the arrow keys to move around the grid. ↑ and ↓ jump a row, ← and → move one emoji.

Step 3: Press Enter to copy

Enter copies the selected emoji and closes the palette, and a message at the bottom of the page confirms it, such as Copied 🥳. Paste it with ⌘+V or Ctrl+V. Clicking an emoji copies it too.

To copy the short name instead, press Shift+Enter or click :name:. The message then reads Copied .

Pick a skin tone

The six dots next to Copy set the skin tone, from the default yellow to five skin tones. Emoji that come in skin tones then show in the grid and copy in the tone you picked.

Works in Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, Vivaldi and Opera.
